Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) leader Raju Shetti on Saturday claimed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax (IT) department were loyalists of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
His comments come on the backdrop of I-T carrying out searches at the sugar mill and residence of NCP MLA Hasan Mushrif in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
“They are targeting those who are refusing to join the BJP. The raids were carried out with an aim to harass Mushrif. It is hard to understand why these raids are conducted before the elections? Why were these raids not carried out when Mushrif was a minister? The Enforcement Directorate and I-T departments are used to target those who have declined to join the BJP. Both the departments are acting as loyalists of Modi and Shah,” said Shetti.
Mushrif, a loyalist of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, represents Kagal Assembly seat in Kolhapur.
The SSS was earlier a part of BJP-led alliance in Maharashtra. However, it decided to part ways with the BJP due to its ‘anti-farmers’ policies. It contested the recently held Lok Sabha polls with the Congress-NCP combine. However, Shetti lost to Shiv Sena candidate in the Hatkanangle seat.
