Goa: Citizen would be imprison if fails to follow rules for change in name or surname


Panjim: Goa Law Minister Nilesh Cabral today informed House that government has introduced an amendment to the Change of Name and Surname Act, to imprison a person if he or she fails to follow the procedure laid down under the Act.

Cabral said that ‘The Goa Change of Name and Surname (Amendment) Bill, 2019’ has been introduced in the House so as to lay down a proper procedure for changing the name and surname of a person.

“The people who do not follow the procedure would be booked under Cognizable offence. The person would be imprisoned for a period upto three months,” he said referring to the Bill.
