Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday assured action against those issuing threats to Congress leader Sachin Sawant. Senior Congress leaders met Fadnavis on Tuesday and demanded action against those threatening Sawant on phone calls and social media.
The issue was also raised in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly by Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar and former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Responding to the Congress leaders, Fadnavis said, “I assure the House that strict action will be taken. It is being observed that there are increasing instances of making life threatening comments and using foul language while trolling. Whoever has indulged in this, strict action will be taken against them even if they are from our own party.”
Earlier, the Congress leaders claimed Sawant has been receiving threat calls since 2015 and he has complained several times about it to police officials, however no action has been taken.
Senior Congress leaders Vijay Wadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, Balasaheb Thorat, Naseem Khan along with others had called on Fadnavis and submitted a memorandum.
Sawant has claimed receiving threatening calls after he filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau accusing Women and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde of clearing purchases worth Rs 206 crore without inviting tenders in 2015.
He claimed that while some threatened to kill me him, others wanted him to apologise to Pankaja Munde.
