Assuring the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh of normalcy in situation soon and promise of all round speedy development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on Thursday after revocation of Article 370 and Article 35A by both the houses of Parliament remarked that both the articles were used by Pakistan as weapons against India to invoke sentiments amongst its people. Commenting upon the critics of the move, he urged them to keep the countrys interests above everything else. He assured the people that the situation will slowly return to normalcy and that they will be able to celebrate Eid without any trouble.
Justifying the Centers move to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A, the Prime Minister said “Article 370 and Article 35A had only given terrorism, separatism, nepotism and massive corruption. These articles have been used as weapon by Pakistan, killing at least 42,000 people”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioned previous Congress led governments which enacted laws for the country and patted itself on its own back for it. He said that Parliament used to make laws and they were not applicable in one part of the country.
Referring to the demand for holding Assembly elections in the region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “your elected representatives will come from you only. Just like you had MLAs, Chief Ministers, Council of Ministers, you will have your own Chief Minister, Council of Ministers. For decades these articles spawned dynastic rule prevented youth from political leadership. For decades lakhs and thousands of people had right to vote in Lok Sabha polls, but neither could they vote nor could they contest in assembly elections. These are those people who came to India after Partition in 1947. I have full faith that under this new arrangement, we will destroy terrorism and free J&K”
Assuring the people of employment opportunities, he said that the Center will soon commence the process of filling all vacant posts in Central and State Government departments. State government employees including police personnel in Jammu and Kashmir police will get financial benefits at par with their counterparts in other Union Territories. The Prime Ministers Scholarship and other government welfare schemes in health, education and other sectors will be extended to the whole of J&K.
He said that in the past every other Bollywood film was shot on location in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said “I call upon Bollywood, film makers from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Industrialists, Tech companies and Entrepreneurs to invest in J&K. The spread of BPOs and Citizens Service Centers network in J&K will give boost to digital connectivity and development. I am sure that in near future international films will be shot on location in J&K. With Central Government PSUs and Private Companies setting up their offices and production units there it will give job and employment opportunities to the local youths ”.
Justifying the decision to keep J&K directly under Central administration for a brief period, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the state administration through the Governor of J&K was well though over decision. He said that because of this effects of good governance and transparency are to be seen on the ground. The Prime Minister added that works on setting up IIT, IIM and institutions like AIIMS have gained momentum. The setting up of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has begun to show effects on the ground in tackling corruption. Development works related to increasing and improving road, rail connectivity, irrigation projects, airport modernization have been speeded up.
Referring to the presence of rich ayurvedic, herbal medicinal plants in the region that help survival in higher altitudes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it will not only give boost to health tourism but also has great export potential. Referring to the Union Territory status of Ladakh, he said that Ladakh because of its unique geographical location had great potential to be leader in Solar power generation.
Commenting upon the fast approaching holy festival of Eid, the Prime Minister assured the people of J&K and those hailing from the state and living in other parts of the country, that they shall not face any problems in celebrating Eid. He said that those living outside J&K and want to go back to their native places to celebrate Eid, will be provided all possible help by the government. “I have complete faith, that under this new system we all shall be able to free Jammu and Kashmir of terrorism and separatism”, remarked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
