Rahul Gandhi is in Mumbai for the defamation case filed against him by a Mumbai-based lawyer and RSS worker. Rahul appeared at a court on Thursday morning. News agency ANI reported that Rahul Gandhi has pleaded not guilty and has been released on Rs 15000 surety amount. Former MP Eknath Gaikwad has given surety for Rahul Gandhi.

The court had issued summon to Rahul Gandhi and CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury for their defamatory comments linking journalist Gauri Lankesh’s killing with the “BJP-RSS ideology”.

The defamation case was filed in September 2017. However, the court observed that such comments would have not been made.

The court issued summons against Rahul Gandhi and Yechury but dismissed the complaint against Sonia Gandhi and the CPI(M), saying a party cannot be held liable for comments made by individuals.
